In The Press: Young pop stars mix it up in studio, Thursday 2 March 2006

Budding Bonos and mini Minogues have been delving into their creative sides and putting pen to paper. Young musical maestros at Middleton's Popstars Academy have been busily writing their own songs and have been given the chance to immortalise their lyrics on to CD. The academy was recently awarded £9,000 by Music Youth for members to write, mix and record their own music - and already two very keen songwriters have put forward their efforts. Nicola Maudsley, 12, has even penned two tunes since the money was awarded two weeks ago. The first, 'Come on Summer', is an upbeat, pop number and 'Time Moves On' is a slower, more brooding ballad.

Nicola Maudsley and Jack McLean record their own songs in the new studio.
